Security advisory

crime

Due to general concerns about the present crime level within the country, Sandyport Security Services would like to remind residents to report any suspicious activity. The Department has made a number of improvements to it’s systems to make the community a safer environment:

  • Video surveillance systems at both entrances and around the property have been upgraded.
  • 24 hour security is provided at the canal entrance with new video & thermal imaging surveillance systems.
  • Licence plate cameras have been installed at both entrances.

In addition to these security measures, we would like to encourage residents to take personal responsibility for their safety:

  1. Always be aware of your surroundings.
  2. If you detect something suspicious contact Security Services immediately.
  3. Ensure that your garage doors are closed.
  4. Do not leave ladders outside.
  5. Report any challenges you may have with service workers.
  6. If you sell your car, remove the access decals and notify Security Services.
  7. If there is an unexpected visitor at your property, call Security Services immediately.
  8. Lock all doors, particularly sliding doors, whether at home or absent from the property.
  9. Co-operate with security policy by rolling down your window at night if asked to do so – we may want to verify that you are not under any form of duress.
  10. Do not attempt to purchase access decals for persons who are not residents of Sandyport.
  11. If a non-resident is using your dock space, make them aware of the rules concerning the use of the waterways.
  12. If you need any assistance, contact Security Services.

Tenant or vehicle changes

84591532

All residents are reminded of the procedure for obtaining and a decal and, of particular importance, what to do when  a vehicle bearing a decal is sold.

The automatic entry system works by reading a barcode that is attached to the right side of the vehicle at a height of about 50″ from the ground (plus or minus 12″) then automatically opening the barrier for authorised barcodes on entry only. The barcode is printed on a decal that will require application by our Security department and residents wishing to purchase them should observe the following guidelines:

  1. One decal needs to be applied per vehicle that requires automatic entry, therefore each additional vehicle requires the purchase of another decal
  2. To purchase a decal first pay the $50 one-time non-refundable fee at the Management office, you will be issued with a receipt containing the barcode number which will need to be presented on installation
  3. Contact our Security department on 327 6943 and arrange a time to apply the decal
  4. During installation, the Security department will confirm the location of the decal with the driver, test that the position works with the reader then apply it upon confirmation
  5. If the decal becomes damaged, a replacement decal may be purchased (no exchanges)
  6. The decals are not designed to be transferred from one vehicle to another as they will become damaged in the process; therefore if a vehicle is being replaced, allow for the purchase of a replacement decal
  7. If the vehicle is sold or no longer requires automatic entry, notify our Security department so that the barcode number may be deregistered from the system, thereby disabling the vehicle’s ability to enter automatically

The property transfer form should always be completed in the event of a change of ownership or tenancy.

Important Security Updates for May 1, 2012

We have introduced further measures to enhance the security of our community as follows:

Worker Identification

All workers (including housekeepers, gardeners, handymen etc.) are required to obtain a pass and enter the property via the service entrance. Occasional workers may obtain a day pass at the entrance subject to paying a $1 deposit (refunded on exit) and clearing security in the usual manner.

Contractors and regular workers, including those that are employed by contractors, are required to purchase an annual pass at a cost of $10 per annum (or $1 per month or part thereof if purchased during the year).

To qualify for a pass the applicant should obtain authorization from the property owner. In the event that the applicant is employed by a third party authorized by the owner, such as a contractor, that third party should make the application on behalf of its’ personnel.

The annual passes expire on December 31 at midnight. Call 327 6943 for further information.

Sample ID pass

Boat Identification

All boats belonging to Sandyport residents are required to be registered and obtain a vehicle identification decal from the main security office. Unregistered boats will be refused entry after May 31, 2012.

Canal Barrier

The barrier is closed between one hour before sundown and 30 minutes after sunrise. In the event that access is required during these hours, boaters are required to notify the Security department beforehand to schedule an arrival time.

In the event that boaters expect to arrive outside of the scheduled time, contact the Security department (327 6943 or channel 72) in advance to reschedule since opening the canal barrier is a multi-step process that takes some time. Preferably notice should be given before the barrier is due to close.

Automatic Entry Lane

Under normal operating circumstances the automatic entry lane barrier will not open unless the vehicle is fitted with the requisite barcoded decal. Those attempting to enter without a decal will need to reverse and enter via the regular entry lane. For further details on obtaining an automatic entry decal click here.

Security alert for beach-goers

It has come to our attention that an incident took place on the public beach adjacent to the Sandyport community whereby a thief snatched a purse belonging to a resident. We are asking residents to be extra vigilent when in public places and in particular the beach which is outside of our community and therefore not patrolled by our security personnel.

Vehicle ID system

In October 2011 we issued a notice concerning the installation of vehicle ID tags. We have since updated the tags and we require all residents to have their new or replacement ID tags installed at the main security office located at the main entrance before March 31, 2012.

It has come to our attention that some persons may have paid for vehicle ID tags which are free issue. Those persons should contact the Head of Security, Ms. Barton, on 327-6943 immediately for resolution.

We will require the name, address and license number for each vehicle registered to a Sandyport resident to be recorded and the ID tag to be installed on the left side window. The ID tags renew annually with the initial set expiring December 2012. From April 1, 2012 all vehicles without an ID tag will be deemed non-resident and not granted entry until the resident provides authorization or the ID tag is installed.

To reserve your vehicle ID tag please contact security on 327-6943 or send an email.

Whilst those residents with automatic entry decals already installed will not require the ID tag to enter the property, we are encouraging all residents to register their vehicles. Residents should be aware that the automatic entry lanes are not opened manually and are reserved for those who have purchased automatic entry decals, details of which can be found here.

We appreciate your support in making the community of Sandyport safer.

New vehicle ID system

To further enhance our security we are introducing a new vehicle ID system to facilitate the recognition of vehicles that enter without using the automatic entry system. We require all residents to have their ID tag installed at the main security office located at the main entrance before October 31, 2011. We require the name, address and license number for each vehicle registered to a Sandyport resident to be recorded and the ID tag to be installed in the upper left hand corner of the windscreen. The ID tags renew annually with the initial set expiring December 2012. From November 1, 2011 all vehicles without an ID tag will be deemed non-resident and not granted entry until the resident provides authorization or the ID tag is installed.

Whilst those residents with automatic entry decals already installed will not require the ID tag to enter the property, we are encouraging all residents to register their vehicles. Effective November 1, 2011 the automatic entry lane at the main entrance will no longer be opened manually and therefore residents that wish to use this facility should arrange for the decal to be installed.

We appreciate your support in making the community of Sandyport safer.

Security updates – May 2011

Warm Greetings to all of our Residents!

Thankfully, April has been another quiet month!

As you may have noticed, some of the speed bumps have been removed. With this in mind, please be mindful of children who may be playing in the area especially on the weekends. As a reminder, the speed limit is 15 mph. We are adding more signs throughout the property in the coming weeks.

Pet Stations have been put in place throughout the property. These stations are to assist pet owners dispose of their pet’s waste. I would encourage all pet owners to use them as they take their pets walking.

We have been having an ongoing problem with pets being a nuisance to other residents, in particular cats. Please as much as possible keep your pets within the confines of your property.

As an additional reminder, the Canal gate opens at 7am and closes 9pm. Please adhere to the time that is stipulated. Only in cases of emergencies, should there be a request for the times to be extended. We are monitoring channel 72 on our ship-to-shore radio.Boats that enter and leaving the Canal at late hours are a disturbance to other Residents.

Finally, please remember to instruct workers to use the Service Gate.

Security updates – April 2011

Warm Greetings to all of our Residents!

There are a few notices I would like for all residents to keep in mind in the upcoming weeks.

As the summer months are approaching, residents will be taking advantage of the beach. I want to advise all residents to be cautious, because the beach under the bridge leads to the road and is also used by the public. Residents should remain aware of their surroundings while on the beach and alert Security if there is someone that they are not comfortable with and we will call the police.

In addition, we are still having ongoing problems with residents not being considerate by not taking along a doggy bag and cleaning after their pets. We are asking residents to cooperate with us by being considerate in this matter. Please be advised that we are planning to install disposal stations in the coming weeks.

Please note that a Security Officer is posted at the Tambearly School entrance gate between the hours of 8am – 9am (during school days) to assist with traffic flow. We are asking parents who are dropping off children to assist us by moving their vehicle as quickly as possible after drop off or pick up. You will note that we recently imposed a 5 minute parking time limit in this area. We will be creating additional parking spaces in the near future to further ease congestion.

Finally, there is a concern that some residents are purchasing barcode stickers to give to their family members who do not reside in Sandyport. This is an unsafe practice and we will refuse applications and disable barcodes that are found to be used by non-residents.

Sarah Barton – Head of Security
