Mosquito control

Our pest control contractor will be fogging the development on May 25, 2012 with a pesticide to reduce the presence of mosquitoes that may contribute to dengue fever outbreaks. Open water will also be treated with a system to kill larvae.

Treatment will take place between the hours of 2:30am and 5:00am, the following guidelines should be observed by all residents:

  1. No persons and/or animals are to be outside during the fogging procedure treatment time.
  2. Close windows and doors during the fogging exercise, they should remain closed for 45 minutes after completion.
  3. Cover swimming pools and decorative water features.
  4. Place all pet feeding/watering bowls indoors.
  5. Turn off all fans and/or air conditioners or set them at exhaust.
  6. Persons and animals can go outside (if necessary) 45 minutes upon completion of the fogging activity. Note this is especially important for children, pregnant women and asthmatics.
  7. Rinse all household items/toys that were left outside before using them.
  8. Rinse all fruits and vegetables (that were in the garden/yard) thoroughly before consuming them.
  9. Note the product scheduled to be used does not have a residual therefore items 3, 4, 7 & 8 noted above are precautionary measures.

Again, there is a problem with this sort of information that is detrimental to one’s health and property being conveyed by e mail only. I will reiterate again and again, my mother on Happy Lane is 95 years old and has no access to or owns a computer, I am away and will be away until October. Who is going to inform my mother to turn off her air conditioner at 2:30 in the morning??? Also, during this recent fogging I had a house sitter/dog sitter living in SPD #31 who also did not have a clue re the fogging and did not turn off the a/c units and did not bring in the water and the food for the dog that was on the outside porch. You must do better than this for what we are paying you Mr. Cooper!!

I’m concerned because Sandyport has just spent money to fog the community for mosquitoes when you have an owner next door to me breeding them
By allowing this to continue you are putting the community at risk of dengue fever.

The whole fogging procedure is a complete Joke. My neighbor is away and their pool is stagnant and full of tadpoles insects etc. Sandyport’s response to this Mosquito breeding ground.

“Unfortunately we do not get involved in private matters such as this”

It should be noted that Sandyport’s response also included notifying the owner immediately upon receipt of the concern reported and advising the complainant accordingly.

With respect to Mr. Ryan’s comment : I simply set my alarm clock at 1/2 an hour before the fogging is to take place so I can turn off my air conditioning.

My issue is with respect to knowing that fogging will take place. Again, I go back to my comment – what about those indivuals who do not own/operate a computer and access the website as a result of which they wont know fogging will take place and cannot therefore take pre-cautions. I guess I am from the old school – good old fashioned paper…..deliver Memo’s to each home.

If the fogging takes place between 0230 and 0500 (the original plan), and item 5 says to turn off your airconditioners….seems like we will have a sleepless night.

The last time that Sandyport was fogged, we were given no notice, and all of my koi fish died, some that were several years old. We lost several hundred dollars worth of fish. I was told by the Sandyport Homeowner Association office that the fogging guidelines outlined on the website were not really necessary, the spraying was actually harmless, and it could not have killed my Koi fish as it is not toxic. If the information that I received from the Homeowner’s association is true, why are the guidelines being issued again? If it is not true, who is going to replace my Koi?
